Did You Know June is Men's Health Month?

father and daughterOn the third Sunday of every June, we celebrate Father’s Day. This holiday is aimed at showing our appreciation towards the fathers in our lives who have impacted us in a positive way.
June is also Men’s Health Month. This initiative aims to spread awareness about the health issues that plague men at a considerably higher rate than women. To illustrate this, men, on average, live five years less than women do as a result of the various illnesses that affect men more.
Here at AFC Urgent Care Springfield & West Springfield, we’d like to help men recognize how vital it is to be cognizant of their health. Women are much more conscious about their health, which is evidenced by them visiting the doctor’s office twice as much as men for a regular check-up. This practice dramatically increases the chances of early detection, which can be potentially life-saving.
To help men understand their increased risk, here are a few facts about men’s health:

  • During the 1920’s, women only lived one year longer than men on average.
  • Men suffer from depression at a far higher rate. As a result, men are four times more likely to commit suicide.
  • Men suffer from hearing loss at double the rate women do
  • The average American male life expectancy is only 76.4, while the average American female life expectancy is 81.2 years old.

This summer, between the high humidity and sweltering temperatures, it’s important to make sure the men in your family (and everyone else in your family too!) have a go-to medical resource for walk-in injury and illness care. Here at AFC Urgent Care, located in Springfield and West Springfield, MA, we offer convenient and affordable urgent care, as well as a number of other walk-in medical services, seven days a week on a walk-in basis.
